Mike Commodore Says He Doesn’t Deserve A $1 Hot Dog

I’m on Twitter all the time and a few Blue Jackets have accounts. After games, defenseman Mike Commodore is always on. I mentioned to him after a game last week that I will buy him a $1 hot dog at the Phoenix game, he said that he wants one with relish. Well, after the 4-1 loss to Phoenix, he responded to me that he doesn’t deserve a hot dog…I disagree.
You can’t put the loss on Mike Commodore, it seemed like the entire night the Blue Jackets were short-handed with a guy or two in the penalty box. Your penalty-killing unit can only do so much, but if you are constantly under pressure, the team is going to crack.
Columbus has been very good at home, up until last night’s loss to Phoenix. They had problems on the last road trip with allowing at least four goals in all four games on their road trip and then in last night’s effort. You will have trouble winning games when you are giving up an average of over four goals a game. I know that I’ve been hard on the defensive squad on Columbus and it’s been valid, but Steve Mason, if he wants to re-gain last year’s form, needs help. He hasn’t been seeing as many goals as he was at the beginning of the season, but a save percentage hovering around 90% isn’t going to cut it as an NHL starting goalie.
The Blue Jackets have a nice schedule ahead of them, six of their next eight games are at home, but against some stiff competition. Their next game is home against the Penguins, then they travel to play the Washington Capitals. Let’s hope their current problems in PK and just general defensive problems won’t occur in those games or it could get ugly.
