Columbus Is Not Interested In Chris Chelios

The Blue Jackets definitely need a defenseman, maybe someone to mentor their young guns, but during the Ken Hitchcock Call-In Show on 97.1FM The Fan, he said that the Blue Jackets aren’t interested in the Chelios.
The person that called in and asked that question seemed pretty knowledgeable about the sport and it’s a legitimate question to ask the coach. The Blue Jackets are the youngest team in the NHL and they are reluctant to trade any of their young pieces for a “win now” attitude. They are eyeing the 12 to 24 months before they start to push for a “win now” type of hurry with the team. Hitchcock said something that many fans forget, Rick Nash is younger than 25, for Jackets fans, it seems like he’s been here for 10 years and he’s a grizzly veteran.
Hitchcock knows Chelios very well and he said that he isn’t interested in having him on their team, even they team would benefit from his knowledge. He felt that Chelios would be taking ice time away from some of their younger players. Hitchcock said that he saw him last year when he was playing and didn’t think he had much left in the tank. That pretty much puts any rumors that Chelios would be landing in Columbus anytime soon.
